I have four boys and one daughter. Yes, she can scrap with them. Yes, she is a bit louder and meaner than her old man. She is also smarter than me, and she is very pretty, so much so that I have more than one gun at home! Ha!
On the more serious side, though, my daughter is pretty amazing.
This September she came to me about earning a half credit in school if I taught her the basics of photography. Funny, because that is all I know at this point: the basics!
So, a good friend of mine sold me another camera, a Canon EOS 7Ti. I gave this to her for now, as she learns the “basics.” I’ll probably give it to her; I am a pushover like that with her.

A Few of Her Photos.
It’s also funny how a hobby like this can connect you with your child. Yes, I do and did that with sports, but this is different. Photography is all about finding light, beauty, and wonder. It is about personal feelings and emotions that connect you to a scene.
This creates a conversation between the two of us, not just about the technical aspects of photography, but about the act and nature of creation. We talk about the scene itself, the plants and wildlife we love the most, and how afraid of spiders she really is! Ha!
Want to connect with your child? Get a hobby you can share with them. Yes, we are on an electronic, but not a phone. There’s no texting or incoming calls, just conversations and sips of our Pumpkin Spice mochas.
These are moments I will cherish with her, moments I hope she will carry on with my grandchildren. That is our hope, isn’t it? To create traditions that live on in their memories, and those of their children as well?
I think so. No, I believe so.
Well, I have to run; we are heading out to snap some more photos…
God bless and talk soon.
